Dear clients and colleagues,
I am a London-based freelance translator with over 20 years experience. Recently I have been working in two main fields. Firstly, I have been at the Japanese Unit at BBC World - translating, interpreting and doing voice-overs. Hourly live news bulletins are highly pressured but require accuracy, while documentaries covering a vast range of topics involve precision and meticulous research.
I have also undertaken a significant amount of subtitling for DVDs, and for TV programmes at drama and entertainment channel BBC Prime, which demands quite different skills and techniques from voice-over and documentary translation. These two different aspects of my work are equally challenging.
Apart from extensive professional skills and experience, I have a strong and relevant academic background and remain conscious of theoretical aspects to translation practice. Above all, I am meticulous about detail and always devote utmost attention to the quality of my work.
I am very lucky to have this fantastic occupation and draw great satisfaction from putting unrelenting effort into each and every opportunity.
Best regards,
Masaru Shimizu
